2012 saw approximately 200 bikes leave Ruapehu in the clouds and travel  through the stunning Forgotten Highway to Whangamomona, where it was  a beautiful day.  Bikers stopped at every vantage point along the way to  enjoy the spectacular scenery. At Whangamomona, a delicious lunch was provided and enjoyed in the  sunshine.  Some riders tried their hand at gumboot throwing while 4 lucky  winners were treated to a flight on the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter (Our  Charity) to get a birds eye view of the Eastern hill country.  From Whangamomona, a very leisurely ride was enjoyed up and over the  Whanga, Pohukura, Strathmore and Douglas Saddles and into Stratford  where riders were directed up to our great Mt. Taranaki.  Those who braved  the strong winds at the Plateau were treated to some fantastic views, right  back over to Mt. Ruapehu (our starting point).  It was then back down to the War Memorial Hall for afternoon tea and  prizegiving.  The bar was open, so a beer or two was drunk and a good  catch up yarn was spun with fellow riders.  The Toko and Disrict Lions Club is very proud to announce that as a result  of the 2012 Chateau to Plateau  Motorcycle ride, $8000 will be donated to  the Taranaki Helicopter Trust, our named Charity.  Thank you all for particapating, we hope to see you and all of your friends  at the 2013 ride on Sunday,  Januray 27.  A huge thank you also to our sponsors, Ravensdown, 1Tonne Motorcycle  Apparrel, Contact Energy, Balance, Suzuki, bCreative Print and Graphics  and numerous other spot prize donators.
